In 2009 the wind, wave and tidal sectors are set to build on the exciting developments in 2008. Over the last 12 months UK has reached and passed by a comfortable margin the 3rd GW of installed wind generating capacity and has now become a world leader in offshore wind. UK companies are at the forefront of development and deployment of wave and tidal devices. The year also saw the total of wind energy projects with planning approvals rise to 7.3 GW, promising a busy deployment schedule and taking the total of homes powered by wind within the next few years to over 5 million.
